Although the UK and EU have agreed to maintain a 100% tariff-free trading relationship, navigating the new statutes will prove to be cumbersome for many as importers and exporters adjust to the split. The UK Export Control Unit published new guidance last week outlining statutory updates to the Open General Licenses (OGELs) which will be in effect as of 23:00 on 31 December 2020.

Importers and exporters are urged to review these updates as it pertains to their supply chain and make necessary accommodations to their procedures. The UK Government official transition page features a countdown to Brexit along with a Brexit Checker, giving businesses and individuals the Red = Check, Orange = Change, Green = Go indicator based on their answers. This page includes helpful links to each aspect of the Brexit changes as well as the most recent transition announcements.
